The mission of the Office of the Vice President for Technology and Economic Development (OVPTED) is to leverage University of Illinois technologies and intellectual properties to benefit society, to support the growth and development of the Illinois and US economies, and to strengthen the University’s education and research programs.
The OVPTED is responsible for managing the intellectual property assets of the University and for overseeing and facilitating the transfer and commercialization of those assets to improve human welfare and to provide opportunity for the University and its faculty, staff, and students to realize the commercial potential of their innovations.
The OVPTED manages the University’s technology commercialization infrastructure, especially, but not limited to, the following entities:
Working closely with both the University community and external stakeholders the OVPTED facilitates the transfer of intellectual properties in ways that benefit society for generations and build enduring connections between the University and industry and public agencies.
